Sweet Marjoram comes from the same family as oregano but smells sweeter. Marjoram grows like an annual in colder, northern climates, but like a tender perennial in warmer climates. Marjoram can grow to 1-2 feet tall and wide. The flavor or marjoram is piney, minty, and similar to thyme. This herb is commonly used in making the seasoning known as Za’atar. The flowers are also edible and both the herb and flowers are excellent additions when cooking fish, soups, mushrooms, stuffing, soups and salads.
Transplanting is recommended for these seeds. Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date. Optimal germination temperature for marjoram seed is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep moist and in a sunny location until germination. Transplant after your last frost date into well-draining soil. Alternatively, marjoram can be grown as a houseplant.
