Garlic chives have edible young leaves and flowers. The leaves are known for their sweet, garlicky onion flavor and are a common ingredient in Asian cuisines, soups, salads, spreads, and marinades. These plants prefer full sun and are grown as a perennial in zones 3-10. Also great for attracting pollinators!
Ideal germination temperature for growing chives seeds is 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit. These seeds can be sown in the early spring or early fall. You can get a head start by sowing them indoors 6-8 weeks before (your last frost) transplanting into your garden in early spring. Chives may spread rapidly if you let the seeds drop.
