Non-GMO, Heirloom, Open Pollinated
An old French heirloom, Charentais Cantaloupes average 2-3 pounds, with a light grey-green skin and bright orange flesh. Six-inch mounds of soil can be created to plant 6-8 seeds in; make sure they are planted in the full sun and thin to 3-4 plants per mound. Plants will vine. Very sweet and fragrant, a divinely flavorful melon for many.
Direct sow melon seeds 1-2 weeks after your last frost, when the soil temperature is above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Alternatively, start seeds indoors 4 weeks before transplanting, when the temperature outside is at least 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
