California Poppies are not just gorgeous, they are also revered for their uses in herbal medicine.

Ideal germination temperature for California Poppy seeds is 50 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Direct sow seeds in the spring, when the soil is workable, after the threat of frost has passed. In warmer climates, you can also sow the seeds in the fall and watch them sprout in the spring. Alternatively, start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last spring frost and transplant outdoors without disturbing the roots (California Poppy has little tolerance of root disturbance). California Poppy will reseed easily and may spread quickly.
