A high yielding, bibb type, loose head lettuce with sweet, thick green leaves, Buttercrunch lettuce is a popular variety with home gardeners and can often be found in mixed greens packages as well. It’s best to harvest the whole head when it is ready. It will maintain the sweetness in the leaves during the heat of the summer and will transition into fall without bolting. This is a fantastic variety for every garden!
Ideal germination temperature is 60-68 degrees Fahrenheit (can germinate in temperatures of 40-75 degrees Fahrenheit). Direct sow as soon as the soil can be worked (from February to October). Alternatively, start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before transplanting outside, when the temperature is at least 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Plants will grow best in outdoor temperatures of 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit.
