An old favorite, the Bulls Blood beet shows deep red coloration in both the root and the leaves. Tolerant to both heat and cold. The roots are best picked early, when they’ve reached a diameter of 2-3” (55 days), and will provide a tender crunch and splash of color to any salad! The baby leaves are also edible (35 days).
Ideal germination temperature for these seeds is 45-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Direct sow 3-4 weeks before your last frost. Alternatively, sow seeds indoors 5-6 weeks before transplanting in early spring. Plant in two-week intervals for a more continuous harvest throughout the season.
